Roll out from the coffee shop and then begin to climb into the hills via Tunnel Road and Skyline Boulevard. Snake along Skyline to the Lake Chabot entrance, where the first dirt section begins. Slither around the dirt trails and then descend Towhee trail down to the Lake. Climb out from the Lake into Castro Valley on suburban roads.
After crossing the busy intersection with Crow Canyon Road, you’ll re-enter the dirt on the Chabot-to-Garin Regional Trail. You’ll hike your bike for a short while, then pop out to a clear view in the hills. The trail will roll up and down, eventually you’ll ascend through a canyon up to the top of the hills.
Pedal past a golf course and then take what looks like the back entrance into Dry Creek Pioneer Regional Park. Begin your hasty descent toward the trailhead. This part is steep! You might see some offshoots from the main trail, which are decent singletrack sections. Feel free to enjoy those!
Once off the trail and back into suburbia, roll through the neighborhood streets to your well deserved post-ride lunch spot.
