Ride out from a morning cup and snack north on bike boulevards, where you’ll stumble upon some paved hills. Climb, pedal, crest, then descend down toward Tilden park. Ride through Eucalyptus forest, which transitions to California Savannah, and then it’s time to climb again!
You’ll enter a gate and then the steep gravelly fire roads await your rolling tires. Pass up through a small oak grove and then back on hilly plains. You’ll crest at an excellent view of the entire bay. Take a breather and cool off in the breeze, then time to descend!
Let gravity do its thing and pedal through rollers. Then you’ll ride on mostly downhill paths, which pass through a little cattle watering hole. Continue on the contour of the hill and then you’ll reach the “bottom.”
Ride back toward whence you came, and then take a turn to exit the ranchy landscape. The climb out is large. You’ll then exit on pavement and ride down one little dirt section of the Hillside Natural Area to have a little fun before the City.
The route then returns along the Ohlone trail, which actually has a little line of dirt you can ride on. Last, you’ll make a final turn toward your post-ride beverage!
